Welcome to Greenfields Energy Group: Meet Emma Gorman, our new Technical Project Manager

We're delighted to welcome Emma Gorman to Greenfields Energy Group as our new Technical Project Manager.

Emma joins us with a strong background in client relationship management and project delivery, bringing with her experience in communication, organisation and understanding what clients need.

In her new role, she'll be managing a range of technical projects, combining the experience she's already built with the opportunity to develop her knowledge in new areas of the energy industry.

As Greenfields continues to grow, Emma will play an important role in helping us deliver projects smoothly and successfully, while making sure our clients continue to receive the personal, responsive service we're known for.

We caught up with Emma to find out more about her career so far, what attracted her to Greenfields and her thoughts on the challenges facing businesses in today's energy market.

What attracted you to Greenfields Energy?

It was the opportunity to build on the experience I already have while moving into a new and exciting area of the energy industry.

I've always loved working closely with clients and managing projects, so the Technical Project Manager role felt like a great opportunity to bring those skills together while continuing to learn and develop.

What does your new role involve?

My role involves managing a range of technical projects and making sure they progress smoothly from start to finish.

Some areas are familiar to me while others are fairly new, so it's a great opportunity to develop my technical knowledge while also bringing experience from projects I've worked on previously.

A big part of the role is making sure everything stays on track and that we're delivering the right outcome for the client.

What are you most looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the projects, developing my technical knowledge and getting to know all the clients involved.

I'm also excited about working with different people across the business and using my previous experience to help us deliver projects successfully for our clients.

Can you tell us about your career so far?

My background has mainly been in client relationship management, where I developed strong skills in communication, organisation and managing client requirements.

One of the things I've always enjoyed most is developing relationships with clients, really understanding what they need and making sure those needs are met.

I'm looking forward to bringing that experience into my new role at Greenfields while developing the technical side of my knowledge too.

What are some of the biggest challenges businesses are facing when it comes to managing their energy today?

I think one of the biggest challenges is the level of uncertainty in the energy market.

Businesses are trying to manage costs while also keeping an eye on wider factors such as changing regulations, sustainability targets and the transition towards renewable energy.

Energy can be complex, so having the right information and understanding the options available is really important. The key is making energy management feel less complicated and giving businesses the confidence to make informed decisions, with the right support around them.

What are some of the biggest misconceptions businesses have about buying energy?

I think it's the idea that there's a one-size-fits-all approach.

Every business has different requirements, priorities and challenges, so understanding those properly is key to finding the right solution.

It's not simply about finding an energy contract. It's about finding an approach that works for that particular business.

In your experience, what makes a great energy strategy?

For me, a great energy strategy starts with understanding the business and what it actually needs.

It's about looking beyond the immediate price and considering the bigger picture, including cost, risk, sustainability and future requirements.

When you understand those different factors, you're in a much better position to build a strategy that works for the business both now and in the future.

What do you think businesses should expect from a good energy broker?

Businesses should expect transparency, good communication and, most importantly, someone who takes the time to understand their requirements.

A good broker should make the process easier for the client rather than more complicated. They should be able to explain the options clearly, provide honest advice and keep the client informed throughout the process.

Coming from a client relationship background, I know how important it is for clients to trust you and to feel listened to and supported. That's something I think should be at the heart of any good client relationship.

What are some of the biggest mistakes you've seen businesses make when managing their energy contracts?

Leaving things too late and not fully understanding the options available to them.

Being prepared, asking questions and having good communication throughout the process can make a big difference.

Projects such as BICS are a good example of why it's important to understand what's changing and what it means for your business rather than waiting until the last minute to act.

What trends do you think businesses should be keeping an eye on over the next 12 months?

Energy prices, regulation and sustainability will all continue to be important.

Businesses should also be looking at where they can improve efficiency and reduce costs. There's a growing need to have better visibility of energy data so businesses can identify opportunities and make better-informed decisions.

From a project perspective, I think being able to adapt to change will be increasingly important, which is something I'm already getting to experience through my work on BICS.

If you could give every business owner one piece of advice about energy procurement, what would it be?

Don't be afraid to ask questions and make sure you fully understand your options before making a decision.

Energy procurement can be complicated, so taking the time to understand what's available and getting the right advice can help you make a decision that works for your business in the long term.

What's one thing colleagues will quickly learn about you?

I'm very organised and proactive, and I like having the freedom to get on with things.

I'm always looking for ways to improve how things are done too. If I spot something that I think could work better, I'm not afraid to speak up and suggest it!

Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time?

I love spending time with my family and friends, getting out for long walks with the dog and trying to keep up with Pilates!

If you weren't doing this job, what do you think you'd be doing?

I'd love to say something glamorous, but probably something involving dogs, food and absolutely no spreadsheets!
